UN Praises Saudi KSrelief Aid Operations in Gaza During Field Visit
A United Nations humanitarian delegation has commended Saudi Arabia's relief operations in Gaza after touring KSrelief facilities, including a central kitchen serving 25,000 daily meals and food distribution sites across the enclave.
UN Delegation Tours Saudi Relief Operations in Gaza
A delegation from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has praised Saudi Arabia’s relief operations in Gaza after conducting a field visit to projects run by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief). The visit, reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Monday, underscores the growing role of Saudi humanitarian efforts in one of the world’s most pressing crises.
The OCHA delegation toured KSrelief facilities and aid distribution sites across the Gaza Strip as humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate amid the ongoing conflict. According to SPA, UN officials commended both the scale and diversity of Saudi-funded operations, as well as the efficiency of relief delivery mechanisms targeting displaced and vulnerable Palestinians.
Inside the Operations: 25,000 Meals Daily
The visit began at KSrelief’s central kitchen in Gaza, which prepares approximately 25,000 hot meals every day for families living in displacement camps. Officials observed the full chain of operations — from food preparation and packaging to distribution — carried out in coordination with the Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage, KSrelief’s implementing partner on the ground.
The tour also included visits to food basket distribution points where aid workers are overseeing deliveries to families across different parts of the territory. The delegation noted the organized logistics ensuring supplies reach the maximum number of beneficiaries, even under extremely challenging conditions.
A Broader Humanitarian Push
The visit came just days after a new KSrelief humanitarian convoy entered Gaza on May 6 as part of a Saudi fundraising campaign aimed at boosting food security and easing shortages caused by the conflict. In recent weeks, KSrelief has distributed thousands of food baskets in Khan Younis alone, benefiting over 10,000 people in the most recent distribution cycle.
Saudi Arabia has significantly expanded its humanitarian operations in Gaza over the past year through KSrelief, encompassing food assistance, emergency relief, and critical water infrastructure projects. In October 2025, KSrelief inaugurated the first phase of a desalination initiative designed to provide clean drinking water to approximately 300,000 people in Khan Younis and central Gaza — a project that drew representatives from OCHA, UNRWA, UNICEF, and UNDP to its launch.
Growing International Coordination
The latest OCHA visit highlighted the deepening coordination between Saudi aid agencies and international humanitarian organizations working in Gaza. This partnership comes at a critical time, as relief groups warn of worsening shortages of food, clean water, and basic services across the territory.
Saudi Arabia’s approach — combining direct food aid with infrastructure projects like the desalination plant — represents a dual strategy of immediate relief and long-term resilience building. The $40 million memorandum of support signed between KSrelief and UNRWA further solidifies this framework of cooperation between Saudi and international humanitarian actors.
Why It Matters
The UN’s public endorsement of KSrelief’s operations signals recognition of Saudi Arabia as a key humanitarian actor in the Gaza crisis. Beyond the immediate impact of thousands of meals and food baskets, the visit highlights how Gulf states are stepping into roles traditionally dominated by Western aid organizations — a shift that carries implications for the future of humanitarian diplomacy in the Middle East.
As the conflict continues and humanitarian needs grow, the effectiveness of aid delivery mechanisms will remain under scrutiny. For now, the UN’s assessment suggests that Saudi Arabia’s model — centralized coordination through KSrelief, partnerships with local implementers, and collaboration with UN agencies — is producing measurable results on the ground.
